Funzi Island

Funzi is a Kenyan Island, a settlement area in Kwale County, South of Kenya, is one of four islands covered with mangrove and is mostly popular for fishing.

In general, interacting with the Samburu people in Samburu town and in their villages as we travelled enabled us to learn about the importance of cultural identity and the importance of having a sense of belonging.

Shaba National Park

Shaba National Park is another major animal sanctuary in Samburu County. It is located to the East of Buffalo and Samburu National Parks.

Founded in 1974, this animal sanctuary was made famous by Hollywood after parts of the movies Born Free and Out of Africa were filmed in the reserve.

Apart from the ‘Special Samburu Five’, Shaba National Park is also home to other animals including;

Point to Note: The best time to go to Shaba National Park is during the dry seasons from June to September and January to February when the animals gather at the banks of Ewaso Ng’iro river or closer to it.

Another Point to Note; Despite the fact Buffalo Springs National Reserve is not in Samburu County, it borders Samburu and Shaba National Reserves.

In fact, the three of these reserves do not have borders. They are separated by the Ewaso Ng’iro River.

Day 1: Arrival and First Game Drive

Depart Nairobi early by road (6–7 hours) or flight (1 hour) to Samburu.

Upon arrival, transfer to your lodge or camp,such as Saruni Samburu or Elephant Watch Camp and settle in with lunch.

In the afternoon, enjoy your first game drive through the dramatic landscapes of Samburu, spotting elephants, lions, and the unique “Samburu Special Five.” As the sun sets, return for sundowners followed by a starlit dinner at camp.

Day 2: Wildlife Safari and Cultural Visit

Begin the day with a sunrise game drive when predators and grazers are most active.

After breakfast, take a guided nature walk to learn about the local ecosystem. Late morning, visit a Samburu manyatta (village) to experience traditional dances, beadwork, and daily life.

After lunch and some relaxation, head out for another optional game drive or simply unwind at camp. Dinner may include a cultural performance or a bush meal under the stars.

Depsite being a small-town, Diani Town is a culturally rich urban area. The local markets have unique souvenirs and crafts ranging from wood carvings, soapstone carvings, kikoy fabrics, handwoven baskets, ceramics, and soapstone carvings.

Day 1:Arrival And Relaxation

In the beginning, Haller Park was a limestone quarry owned by Bamburi Portland Cement. After mining came to an end, the place looked so disorganized and ugly and Bamburi Cement took responsibility and decided to reclaim the land and restore its beauty by creating an ecological system.

As of today, the park is home to more than 25 tree species and a diverse range of animal species including reptiles, amphibians, birds and aquatic animals.

7:30 PM – Meeting & Check-in at Nairobi SGR Terminus

Meet your travel coordinator for check-in assistance and boarding instructions. Ensure you have your ID, printed ticket (provided), and light snacks or a travel pillow for the journey.

10:00 PM – Depart Nairobi via SGR Night Train (Economy Class)

Relax and enjoy a peaceful overnight train ride to the coast. Light sleeping recommended, you’ll arrive refreshed and ready to start Day 2.

Day 2: Arrival & Coastal Adventure Begins

Tsavo East and Tsavo West are homes to the Big 5 Animals (Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Buffalo and Rhino). Asides from the Big 5, Tsavo also has a diverse animal species including Zebras, Antelopes, Giraffes and more than 500 species of birds. Tsavo National Park Itinerary

This is an itinerary of Tsavo National Park and Mombasa City consisting of 7 days and 6 nights by Zunguka Safaris. Enjoy your Safari!

Day 1: Flight Transfer to Tsavo

You will be picked by our driver and get chauffeured to Wilson airport for your flight to Tsavo where upon arrival you will be picked and get transferred to the camp for check-in & have lunch. You will be advised on game drives timings or any scheduled activities. Overnight Finch Hattons

Day 2: Full Day Tsavo

On this day you will have your breakfast, you will then be briefed up on scheduled activities planned for the day that is the game drives, nature walks, yoga sessions if interested and hiking. Overnight Finch Hattons

Day 3: Transfer To Mombasa
